First of all, you cannot LOSE what you didn't have in the first place. You clearly love playing football/soccer, but you obviously have tons of doubts about your ability, so when you are on the pitch all the doubts that you have been trying to hide come to the fore, and the false assurance drains away leaving you disappointed, fearful and exposed.

The whole point of playing very well is not just for your own benefit, but to utilise it for the enjoyment of others. What’s the point of being a great player, if you never put it to the test? You have to truly BELIEVE you’re a good player, to banish the doubts, before you can also prove yourself in public, because that is what is faulty: your self belief. True confidence is a product of self-esteem. This, in turn, is determined by self-belief, self-love, and self-value. When those three elements are absent, it is almost impossible to have true confidence in yourself because its essential foundation would be missing.

In essence, low confidence is driven by fear: the fear of not being good enough, not being wanted and valued, and being worthless and insignificant.

What you have at the moment is not confidence in yourself, but a lot of talent waiting for the self-belief to develop it. Deep down, you don’t really believe you are good enough, perhaps because of the way you have been undervalued by the people who matter to you, though you enjoy the thought of being good at the game. Thus when you are playing by yourself when no one is watching, you try to convince yourself that you are confident and skilled at your game. But as you don't value yourself highly enough, and believe you are not as adequate as other players, your thoughts and beliefs defeat you every time you try to convince others you really are good.

Time to work on your self belief. To identify what you are really afraid of, the reason why you are filled with doubts, and address it. Otherwise nothing will change because you will lack the foundation to build your confidence and really make it happen for you. Addressing your fears and doubts, and strengthening your self-belief that you CAN do it, will give you the true confidence to play your best games without needing to question your talent, or to even think about it.
